Event Description

SPIRIT LAKE – Area boys and girls in grades 4, 5, 6 and 7 are welcome to compete in the 2018 Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee. Iowa Great Lakes Council 5043 is sponsoring the always-entertaining contest January 25 at the Spirit Lake Middle School music room. Free on-site registration – requiring a parent’s signature – will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the hallway outside the Music Room at Spirit Lake Middle School off Hill Avenue in Spirit Lake.

Fourth graders will begin competing promptly at 4 p.m., with other grade levels to follow. The first and second place spellers and an alternate in each grade will then be eligible to compete in the Regional Spelling Bee. The first and second place contestants in the regional competition may advance to the state spelling bee in Ames.

Students can prepare for the competition by accessing the spelling lists at http://iowakofc.org/page/spelling-bee. Students from the other area school districts are invited to participate.
