Iowa Knight Life

We are the Knights of Columbus of Iowa. This is our story. The story we can tell best. Men of Catholic faith, performing good works informed by faith. The story of Iowa Knights reaching out to each other as brothers and to the less fortunate making a difference in that small part of the world God has entrusted to us.

We are a family friendly fraternal organization dedicated to helping men, women, children and unborn children. We want to tell you of our activities, our goals and our inspiration. In turn we hope to inspire you the listener to join us in Serving God's people to build up a Culture of Life and of Love.

If you know of a Knight helping others we want to hear about it and so do our listeners! Have an idea for an interview? Email

Responding to Brother Mike Gaspers:

When one thinks of charitable activities, it's natural to think of helping an elderly person with the trash or cleaning some part of town. While these are important manifestations of our Catholic Faith, it is clear that there are many people and many organizations that engage in such wonderful activities. Given this, and given the Building the Domestic Church (BDC) program that is now gaining momentum in the Knights of Columbus, I suggest spotlighting charitable activies that Knights are engaged in that lead to enhanced health of souls, for example, the BDC's 5th Sunday Rosary Program, or any of the other programs listed here.

The primary purpose of the Church is to get souls to heaven, so focussing on the charitable activities that help people to work out their salvation seems appropriate.

I know that the Monona Council is doing the 5th Sunday Rosary Program, and the Decorah Council has also been doing it, too.

Peace be with you.

Not completely dormant but taking a breather.

do you have ideas to propose?  I'm wanting to develop along two lines

1) Behold the Knight ... stories of Knighthood, fraternity etc

2) We are Called .... stories of charitable activity

Proposal for Februrary, March, and every other month: Teach the Faith. Teach the Faith coherently and consistently each month. This is not, to the best of my knowledge, being done in any other free, open format.

So, how to go about doing this? Here's a suggestion: Read a section per month from You don't have to write a script. You don't have to reinvent the wheel. It's right there. [I understand that you might need to get permission from CIS to do this, but I have a hard time imagining that they'll refuse permission since it'll be read by the Knights of Columbus on a Knights of Columbus radio program to evangelize and instruct Knights of Columbus and everyone else in Iowa and beyond.]

Why do this? See the following to understand:

Every Knight in Iowa should listen to every edition of Knight Life. This is an incredibly powerful and inspiring program. Thanks Mike for all of your hard work on this; please keep it coming!

Comment by Davis Assembly on October 5, 2015 at 5:11am appears to be out of date. Fyi.

Thanks for Knight Life!

Here's a place to post the DD huddle podcasts:

I agree that making the huddle recordings accessible to leadership is a good thing, but I am convinced that to have the recording up on the totally public Iowa Knight Life website is counterproductive to the efforts of the Knights of Columbus because the discussions are semi-private and, because the recordings can be taken out of context by people not "in the know," could be counterproductive to the goals of the Iowa Knights of Columbus. I strongly suggest putting huddle recordings in a private area, as I suggested in my initial post on this issue. The private area would be accessible to Iowa Knights of Columbus leadership and, if both the huddles and the recordings are not meant just for District Deputies and State leadership, they should be retitled simply "huddles." I have to say that when the huddle was publicized on the website, I wondered if anyone could sign in and participate given that the gotomeeting weblink was published right on the totally publicly accessible website.

I like the huddles, I like them via the web (as long as audio quality is sufficient, which it seemed to be in this huddle), I like openness as much as possible, but there are limits to what should and should not be posted for all the world to see and hear. Please listen to this huddle from the point of view of a person who is not a member of the Knights of Columbus and who knows almost nothing about our wonderful organization--the recording gives the impression of a group of negative, downbeat, disorganized persons who are confused about what should be done to make the organization work. Unfortunately, that impression would be absolutely incorrect given the strong organizational structure of the Order at all levels and the hard and positive work being done by members at all levels. There's no need to air all dirty laundry for all the world to see when that laundry is out of context.

So who should have access to this podcast? State leadership and DD's and DW's for sure, but I agree with Jim that this could include GK's and DGK's; I would add financial secretaries.
