On 24 November 2013, Iowa’s newest KofC Council, 15813 in Dubuque, hosted a First, Second, and Third Degree Exemplifications for the area.
For the First Degree, teaching the principle of charity, three men became Knights. Two are in seminary formation at Divine Word College in Epworth and joined Council 510 with Steve Tomecek being the third participant joining Council 15813. For the Second and Third Degree Exemplifications, 11 men advanced their Knighthood including a priest, two permanent deacons, and two seminarians.
Commenting on the experience, Divine Word Seminarian Valentine Akpa shared:
“The process spurred a new zeal in me and a courage to journey on, in this path. Sometimes, it is hard to identify as a religious in this country and there are, understandable factors to it. But knowing that there are brothers who will always stand for us and us for them makes great difference. I am glad to have identified with KC. It changes everything and keeps me firm on this path to the priesthood.”
Also in attendance during the exemplifications was State Deputy Joe Ramirez.
