Decorah Knights Council 4208 Begins Catechesis Program for Its Members

[From "The State of Catholic Families” on page 27 of the September 2015 issue of…

Iowa Catholic Conference newsletter - Jan. 22, 2016

Not all of the political activity in Iowa these days relates to the caucuses. The state legislature is back in session as well.

Senate File 84 was considered in a Senate subcommittee on Tuesday. The bill would restrict many employers from asking job applicants up-front about criminal convictions. The purpose of the bill is to provide better opportunities for ex-offenders by preventing their job applications to be put aside immediately based on their criminal record.

Once the…

Saturday, January 16, 2016 Knights Sponsored Family Fun Night

On Saturday, January 16, 2016, Council 15603 hosted a parish-wide Family Fun Night. Parishioners came with their families, enjoyed dinner, games (Lego building table, giant Jenga, etc.) and a free-throw contest. It was a great way for our parish families to enjoy themselves, have something to eat, and allow the kids to burn off a little steam without being out in the frigid winter cold.

The following is an article posted by Anthony E. Stivaktakis.  It is a great testimony of Christian Faith.  Please read on about an example of fortitude exemplified by our Eastern brethren, during World War I.

- As informed by the grandson of the brother of Papa Noufrakis today (Summer 2001), a bust of the hero was made in his village of Alones, and there is also the grave there of Archimandrite Eleutherios (Lefteris) Noufrakis (pictured below).

- The text…

Martin L. King and the continuing need for civil rights legislation

If it was right and just in 1964 for President Lyndon Johnson to sign the civil rights act, following upon the courageous witness of Martin L. King, then it is only right and just now that the unborn should be the beneficiaries of civil rights legislation to recognize and protect their personhood and dignity.

It was unjust to deny civill rights and liberties to racial minorities in decades in the past. It remains unjust to deny civil rights, the dignity of personhood, and protection…
