Prayers Needed: Important day for Pro-Life in Iowa

Brothers Knights,

Today is the first of many big battles to come, in the fight for the lives of the unborn. We are meeting and testifying at a Senate sub-committee meeting on SF-2 (defunding of the abortion industry). Many organizations have pulled together for the first time in 44 years to work together as a coalition (Coalition of Pro-life Leaders), to make sure that we do not squander this historic opportunity.

I am asking for my brothers to prayer the prayer below and ask…

Reflections on the sad anniversary of Roe v. Wade

On January 22 we observe a sad anniversary, the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion in the United States. This is about as far away from “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” as articulated by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence as one can get.

Millions of…

Bills introduced to “defund” abortion providers; eliminate regulation of guns

The ICC supports redirecting government health care funds away from abortion providers. Senate File 2 would, in effect, stop all government health care funds from going to abortion providers. We believe that…

Mass for Life and Institute for Social Action canceled

Following consultation with the bishops, we are canceling this weekend’s Mass for Life (which was 5 p.m. on Sunday in Altoona) and Institute for Social Action. Both Sunday and Monday are cancelled. The weather forecast is iffy and concern for peoples’ safety with possible ice on the roads is a priority.

Iowa Catholic Conference Newsletter, Jan. 8, 2017

The 87th Iowa General Assembly convenes on Monday. Most of the first week is taken up by the usual ceremonies and organizational meetings of committees. During the first day, legislative leaders address the chambers to talk about their plans for the session. Also coming up this week is Governor Branstad’s presumably final “Condition of the State” speech to the legislature and Chief Justice Cady’s “State of the Judiciary” address.

It’s a new situation at the State Capitol because last…
