The "travel gavel" is presented to a Council in northeast Iowa for best membership showing at meetings with other Councils. Travel Gavel points are added up over the fraternal year, and the northeast Iowa Council with the most points earns the Travel Gavel. The Iowa Catholic Conference (ICC) Board of Directors met late last month to consider its legislative agenda for the coming year.
Three recipients of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) status addressed the board about their personal stories. Inspired by attending the Supreme Convention in St. Louis, Administrative Assistant Ed Pancrazio approached his council, Centerville Council #2144, to help with the Supreme Knights mission to rebuild the town of Karamdes in Iraq.
Karamdes has suffered and been devastated by genocide at the hands of ISIS. The Christian population has been reduced by two-thirds, from 1.5 million to 500,000.
