All Saints Catholic Church of Des Moines is sponsoring the YOUTH 2000 Eucharistic Retreat at Dowling Catholic High School March 1-3, 2013. This retreat was held annually from 2001 through 2008 and has produced much fruit in vocations to the priesthood, religious life, lay ecclesial ministry and holy marriages.

Saint Mary-Holy Cross Council 15347 of Elkhart hosted an outdoor pancake breakfast after Mass at Holy Cross on 12 August 2012. Over 80 people enjoyed the breakfast and even had entertainment from Grand Knight Jon Hand's giant pancakes. The Knights of Columbus of Albia sponsor a 24-hour adoration the first Friday of the month at St. Patrick Church in Melrose. Father Dan Krettek, Pastor at St. Mary's/Holy Cross in Elkhart, has been diagnosed with lung cancer and is scheduled for surgery 21 August 2012. His doctor is optimistic about removal, but we still need to include Fr. Dan in our prayers over the next few days, and especially on Tuesday.

The Knights of Columbus at St. Patrick Church in Iowa City will be collecting 5 cent redemption cans and bottles the third Saturday of every month from 9 AM to Noon. The collection will take place at the west side of St. Patrick Church near the entrance to the Day Chapel. No need to sort cans. Proceeds benefit “Right to Life” organizations in Johnson County.

As reported earlier at the July meeting, the Iowa Knights have purchased a sea container of 110 wheelchairs which have been ordered, and should be delivered to Haiti sometime in September or October. Dan Moberg of the Wheelchair Mission told me that after the shipment arrives in Port Au Prince, it typically can take up to 5 months for the chairs to be cleared for distribution.
