Ankeny’s Knights of Columbus councils, Msgr. J.M Hanson Council 5038, based at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Parish, and Father Richard E. Gubbels Council 15603, based at Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish, recently completed their Seventh Annual Raffle for Life.
Since 2007, the raffle has been held to coincide with Respect Life month and to benefit The Gabriel Project, a pro-life crisis pregnancy assistance program operating in Polk County.
For the first time since inception, all 200 of the $50 raffle tickets were sold generating gross sales of $10,000.
On December 2, 2013, Council 5038 Culture of Life Director Ray Blase, left, and Council 5038 Grand Knight Bill Gorius, right, presented Marilyn Sharp, center, Director of The Gabriel Project, with a check in the amount of $8820.44.
These funds will be used by The Gabriel Project to assist young pregnant women with such needs as emergency housing, pre-natal care, new baby needs such as diapers, formula, baby beds, car seats, and clothing. In 2013, The Gabriel Project assisted 50 young women who have delivered 52 beautiful babies.
The Eighth Annual Raffle for Life is currently scheduled for Fall 2014 with expansion into two Northern Polk County Knights of Columbus councils. Businesses and individuals interested in supporting, contributing prizes, and/or would like more information on the raffle are asked to contact Ray Blase at 515-963-0265.
