Decorah Knights Council 4208 to Hold Church Drive this coming weekend

Decorah Knights Council 4208 to Hold Church Drive this coming weekend, 28-29 October. Information about Church Drives: http://iowakofc.org/page/church-drive-materials

Brother Knights, please call [five six three two seven seven zero zero four three] to volunteer:

Need at least one Knight to have paper and pencils in pews prior to each Mass.

Three Knights per Mass needed to man the exits so as to collect names and phone #'s of prospective members; there will be clipboards with paper to write down names & numbers. These same members will make sure the pews are cleaned up after Mass. Will also need to collect any papers (with names & #'s of prospective members) put into collection basket.

As of 25 Oct, a speaker is needed for the 4 pm Mass; speakers for the 7:30 and 10 am Masses have now been arranged.

As indicated here, we'll need a member to make personal contact with every prospect within 48 hours.

We'll need to schedule Admissions Degree(s) as needed.

In my pulpit talk, I believe I also mentioned--I think it was in the "something for everyone" section--that women and children are welcome to participate in ALL but a very few council activities. [Of course, those very few activities are ceremonials and business meetings.]

So last night I went back to the Church building to pick up the left over paper and pencils in the pews. That was quite a job because many of the pencils had drifted under hymnals--in our parish we now keep the hymnals in the pews--and the pieces of paper had gotten mixed up with the hymnals, so it was quite a job extracting the pencils and papers from the pews.

Oh, and a thanks goes to Saint Benedict's parish for loaning us the short pencils for use during the Church Drive.

Kinda important: When the people are streaming out of Mass, it's important to engage each and every one of them--shaking hands with ladies, children, men is a good idea and, when the Holy Spirit prompts you, ask a man if he's interested in the KofC. In the somewhat reticent culture of northeast Iowa, if you wait for the man to ask, you might wait a long time.

Forgot to mention in last comment, we had two pencils per pew end and four slips of paper per pew end for the three weekend Masses.

My pulpit talk was given just after holy Communion.

In my talk (see the other comment), I was ready to suggest that men write their name & # on a piece of paper if they were interested in membership in the KofC. The only problem with that was that my talk was after the collection. If this happens again, baskets should be placed at the exits for men to put their pieces of paper with their names/#'s. Alternatively, men can be told just to hand the paper to one of the Knights at the doors.

I enjoyed shaking the hands of everyone who left the Church building and occasionally getting a name/# down on paper. Here's a photo of the items we used for the Church Drive:

We also handed out the brochure "The 24-hour Knight" (http://www.kofc.org/en/members/membership/recruitment-strategies/tw...)
