Forty-four new Sir Knights of Columbus were exemplified into the Fourth Degree on 5 October 2013 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Des Moines.
Honoree for the exemplification was Msgr. Frank E. Bognanno, Pastor of Christ the King Catholic Church, and Past State Chaplain (1989-1992) for the Iowa Knights of Columbus. Msgr. Bognanno has been a Knight of Columbus since 1963 and a Sir Knight since 1990. He is currently a member of the Christ the King Council 13159 and Pope John Paul I Assembly 3377, both in Des Moines.
Monsignor has been in administration and parish ministry in his 48 years of service to the people of the Diocese of Des Moines. He has served as Moderator of the Curia and Chancellor, led Hispanic Ministry, and been a consultor for the diocese. He was coordinator of the 1979 landmark visit of Blessed Pope John Paul II and led the planning for the diocesan Centennial Celebration in 2011. He has served ten parishes within the diocese and is in his 12th year as Pastor of Chirst the King.
The exemplification was also honored to have in attendance Vice Supreme Master William Baalmann, who was recently appointed Vice Supreme Master for the Father Padilla Province which encompasses Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska. Vice Supreme Master Baalmann is a Past State Deputy and Former District Master for the State of Kansas. He replaces Former Vice Supreme Master John Kasper from Kansas.
