ORIGINAL 15 DECEMBER 2013 ARTICLE
Back in January of this year, we were so appreciative that The Most Revered Richard E. Pates, Bishop of Des Moines Diocese, along with both Governor Branstad and Lt. Governor Reynolds were with us at the inaugural Midwest March for Life events that began with a march around the Capitol building and ended with a luncheon program at the Iowa Events Center. The weather for the march was beautiful, and Bishop Pates jokingly commented to the over 500+ gathered that he was glad he had the easy job of being in charge of the weather for the day! All that to say, we have scheduled this year’s 2nd annual Midwest March for Life for Saturday, January 18, 2014. We are so happy that Bishop Pates has already agreed to again be a part of the march at the Capitol and speak at the luncheon program, and we will again be inviting other church leadership and State political leadership to unite and lead the Midwest March for Life.
The March will begin on the West steps of the Iowa State Capitol building at 11:00am and end on the steps of the Iowa Supreme Court building, with opening and closing prayers and remarks made by our State political leaders and area church leadership. (scheduled for about an hour)
The Roe v. Wade Effect lunch and program will be at the Iowa Events Center. (There is no charge for the lunch, rsvp’s are required, and a freewill offering will be taken.)
Lunch buffet will begin serving at 12:30 PM. Program to begin at 1:00 PM (scheduled for 1 1/2 hour followed by a Break Out Session with Invited Guests)
Youth Event targeted towards College and High School ages (all ages welcomed) in another room at the Iowa Events Center: 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM with guest speaker, Bryan Kemper, National Priests for Life Youth Speaker, and live band (TBD), with snacks provided.
This event will commemorate 41 years since the decision of Roe v. Wade legalizing abortion in our nation.
The annual March for Life events in Washington D.C. are set for the week of January 21-24, 2014, and many from Iowa (and many other states) load into buses and make the 5-6 day trip to be a part of walking the mall in Washington D.C. to participate in the largest pro-life gathering each year, and we are happy for those who are able to make that memorable trip. However, we want to offer those in the Midwest that cannot make the trip to Washington, D.C., the opportunity to gather together and march in the “heartland” of America for LIFE. That is the goal of this annual march at the beautiful Iowa State Capitol building; and for those who want to participate in the luncheon program, a time of information; and new this year a youth event to gather the pro-life students together to be encouraged and motivated as they go back to their campuses! Also, the dates of the two events makes it possible to attend both!
