Area boys and girls in grades 4, 5, 6 and 7 are welcome to compete in the 2014 Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee. Iowa Great Lakes Council 5043 is sponsoring the always-entertaining contest February 11 at the Spirit Lake Middle School music room. On-site registration – requiring a parent’s signature – will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the hallway outside the Music Room at Spirit Lake Middle School.
Fourth graders will begin competing promptly at 4 p.m., with other grade levels to follow. The top speller and an alternate in each grade will then be eligible to compete in the Regional Spelling Bee at Le Mars Gehlen Catholic School February 23. The first and second place contestants in the regional competition may advance to the state level.
Students can prepare for the competition by accessing the spelling lists at http://iowakofc.org/page/spelling-bee. And since this is the only Lakes Area Knights of Columbus council sponsoring a contest in 2014, students from the Okoboji, Harris-Lake Park, Estherville and Spencer school districts are also invited to participate.
Any questions may be directed to Jim Miller, Grand Knight, at 605-480-5327, or Paul Katzfey, Recorder, at 712-330-6371.
