Iowa Knightline – 17 July 2014
“For each one of us, there is only one thing necessary: to fulfill our own destiny, according to God's will, to be what God wants us to be”--Thomas Merton.
~ District Meetings – Leadership Planning ~
As a council officer you have been charged with leading your council in its many endeavors to serve those in need and to remain the right arm of your parish priest. Being successful in meeting those expectations takes planning and knowledge. Who better for a sounding board and input than someone who’s already got some experience doing just that sort of thing?
Make plans to attend your district meeting. Get to know the other officers in your district. Share ideas. Encourage your District Deputy to meet with you soon. He has valuable information and resources to ensure you have the most successful year.
Once again this year Supreme has provided a great resource in the Fraternal Planner. Get yours soon from your district deputy.
~ Iowa Announced as achieving Circle of Honor ~
It has been announced officially that the Iowa Jurisdiction has been named to the Supreme Knights Circle of Honor. This distinction is granted to jurisdictions that meet the goals set by the Supreme Councils in membership growth, retention and programming.
Immediate Past State Deputy Joseph A. Ramirez will receive the award at the upcoming Supreme Convention in Orlando. He joins a select group of Past State Deputies that achieved this distinction in what the Iowa Jurisdiction intends to become a tradition of excellence.
~ Running of the Silver Rose ~
My brothers, the Silver Rose should be in Iowa this coming Sunday. Thanks for willing to participate in such a short notice and for praying to our Lady of Guadalupe to end abortion. This year the route has been altered so we will have a small loop in the Diocese of Davenport around the mighty Mississippi. This is the schedule as agreed with Illinois and Missouri:
Sunday July 20 @ 10:00 AM Schwiebert Park, 18th St and 1st Ave, Rock Island, IL transfer from Illinois to Iowa.
Sunday July 20 - Thursday July 24 the Silver Rose in the Davenport Area. Transfer on Thursday July 24 thru DD38 Refugio Ceniceros
Thursday July 24 - Tuesday July 29 the Silver Rose in the Muscatine Area. Transfer on Tuesday July 29 thru DD36 John Ihle and GK Isaac Doucette and/or DD30 Kevin Hayes
Tuesday July 29 - Sunday August 3 the silver Rose in the Iowa City Area. Transfer on Monday August 4 thru DD52 Glenn Rinkenberger.
Sunday August 10 Transfer to Canton, MO. State Deputy Dan Werner has indicated that he will attend this.
The Silver Rose program has been active since 1960. Conceived by Squires in Mexico, three silver roses make their way on various routes across Canada and the United States. At stops along the way prayer services are held asking our Lady of Guadalupe for her protection and especially for an end to abortion.
~ Disaster Relief Fund Reminder~
The needs are still there so don’t forget while you are on vacation or inviting new men into the Knights there are those who need our help. Disasters don’t wait for vacation and they don’t get over quickly.
Visit http://iowakofc.org/page/disaster-relief for details on how you can help and where to send donations.
~ Father McGivney Guild~
Encourage Brother Knights at your council meetings, picnics and especially first degrees to join the Father Michael J. McGivney Guild. Need a refresher on what that involves visit http://www.fathermcgivney.org/mcg/en/contact/register.html to learn more.
Why join? Membership in the guild is voluntary but is about supporting the cause for Fr McGivney’s canonization. Why wouldn’t all Knights be favorable to his cause to sainthood as strongly as they are dedicated to his vision of serving the needy and strengthening families?
Call on Fr McGivney’s intercession for the needs in your life. May God’s will be done in all things.
~ Christ Our Life Conference ~
Catholic Event Provides Opportunities Now to Strengthen Faith
The conference, a wonderful example of a grassroots volunteer effort for faith-building, requires many volunteers. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus have previously provided the Honor Guard during the conference Masses. We wish to invite additional members of the Knights to serve in other ways during the conference.
Go to the conference website ChristOurLifeIowa.com and then click on the Volunteer Application Link to fill out the form. Choose a job category.
