This year, the United States Bishops have again called for a Fortnight for Freedom from 21 June 2013 - the vigil of the Feast of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More - to 4 July 2013, Independence Day. This period of prayer, reflection, and action will enable faithful Americans to better understand religious liberty. It will also help us respond to the many threats facing religious liberty, including the HHS contraceptive mandate is scheduled to become effective 1 August 2013.
To enable and encourage even greater participation by Knights of Columbus in this year’s Fortnight for Freedom, several tools/aids are available to assist you in your planning. The first is the website www.fortnightforfreedom.org. It contains information on upcoming Fortnight events in dioceses across the country, as well as useful fact sheets and educational resources. The Knights of Columbus Supply Department has also made available two religious freedom signs. They are:
* Sign #10041: “Respect Religious Freedom”
* Sign #10042: “Defend the First Amendment”
Signs may be ordered here: http://www.kofc.org/un/en/about/contact/supply.html, or by using a Supply Requisition (Form #1). Signs are sent in batches of 100, including 50 of each sign. The cost is $10 per 100, which covers shipping and handling. Orders may be submitted to the Supply Department by fax, at 1-800-266-6340.
Most importantly, each diocesan ordinary has made plans for the Fortnight. Click on the below links for your diocese.
Working together, we will be able to protect our first freedom for all Americans.
God Bless America!
