Iowa Knights Continue Decades Support of Special Olympics Iowa | $25,000 Donation Made; Laake Elected to SOI Board

At their December 2012 leadership meeting held in Des Moines, the Iowa Knights of Columbus recommitted their decades-long support to Special Olympic Iowa.

Funds for this donation came from the Persons with Intellectually Disabilities (PID) Drives, popularly known as Tootsie Roll Drives, conducted annually by Knights of Columbus across Iowa.

Since 1974, the Iowa Knights of Columbus has conducted Persons with Intellectually Disabilities (PID) Drives. Popularly known as Tootsie Roll Drives, nearly $15,500,000 has been raised in Iowa to specifically and explicitly benefit individuals with intellectual disabilities. $875,000 of the funds raised have been directed to Special Olympics Iowa.

Further, local Councils and Assemblies contribute to Special Olympics Iowa yearly via volunteer hours and additional fundraisers. Iowa Knights also provide guidance, insight, and leadership to Special Olympics Iowa through service on the board of directors.

Recently, Immediate Past State Deputy Michael P. Laake of Estherville was elected to the Special Olympics Iowa board of directors.
