With regions of the East Coast still reeling from Hurricane Sandy, the Iowa Knights of Columbus approved at its December 2012 leadership meeting to allocate $1500 from its disaster fund to this recovery effort.
“To make a difference by assisting those less fortunate is what it means to be a Christian and a Knight,” shared Iowa Knights of Columbus Disaster Chair Patrick T. O’Keefe. “Our donation by no means is intended to offer complete relief but rather to offer assistance in everyday living needs as lives are put back together on the East Coast.”
The Supreme Council along with the state Councils of New York and New Jersey of the Knights of Columbus will each receive $500 on behalf of Iowa Knights and their families.
“Charity is the first principle of the Knights of Columbus,” stated New York State Deputy Sal Restivo, “and in a disaster such as this, we are grateful to the many people who have made donations in support of our relief efforts.” “I thank all my Brother Knights in Iowa for this donation,” said Restivo.
