Saint Joseph Emergency Family Shelter is the only emergency shelter in Polk County where the entire family unit can stay together. Operated by Catholic Charities – Diocese of Des Moines, Saint Joseph’s provides safe, clean housing for homeless families for a limited stay.
As Chair of the Catholic Charities – Diocese of Des Moines Board of Director, State Secretary Dan Werner knows well the value of Saint Joseph’s.
“Last year, it provided shelter to 370 men and women and children of whom 58% were children,” shared Werner. “These statistics support the mission of Saint Joseph’s which is to honor the humanity of each person by acknowledging the emotional and financial crisis involved when a family finds itself without housing or funds.”
Recently, Werner learned through the volunteer newsletter that the shelter residents would appreciate juice donations. Moved by this simple request and the Knights of Columbus’ first principle, charity, Werner purchased several bottles of 100% juice and donated it to Saint Joseph’s.
Werner now challenges Central Iowa Knights to do the same. Donations of 100% juice only can be delivered directly to Saint Joseph Emergency Family Shelter which is located 1535 - 11th Street in Des Moines. Please call 515-282-1235 if you have any questions.
