March 29th 2014 is the date of founding for Seton Mazzuchelli, # 15921 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hiawatha IA.
The council's name comes from 2 individuals who were facing daunting, almost incredible odds, against which they achieved success that can be measured even today.
St Elizabeth Ann Seton- started the Catholic schools system in America, with virtually no help in the beginning, and we know how successful it still is today,
Venerable Fr. Samuel Mazzuchelli came to Southern Wisconsin, and Iowa, as a Missionary Priest, and with little help, and virtually no money, built churches throughout the fledgling Dubuque Diocese (which at the time encompassed the entire State of Iowa), mostly along the Mississippi. He built St Anthony’s in Davenport with no funds other than what he could beg from immigrant Irish and Italian families in the city. In 1993, Pope John Paul II declared Father Mazzuchelli Venerable, meaning he exemplified heroic virtues during his lifetime and was a servant of God, thus beginning the process of someday possibly recognizing Father Samuel as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church.
The reasoning behind the names comes from the fact this Council is facing a great task of trying to unify a large, new Parish, with the majority of members being in the 18-35 year old range, who struggle to attend Mass weekly, and don’t know each other. The Knights Council is tasked with being the unifying source for Men in the Parish of that age group, and they have a good representation of that age group, many of them didn’t know each other before they decided to join.
This Parish is huge, and the task is also, but by praying to, and asking for these 2 models for help, the goal can be achieved!
Special thanks to Father Mark Ressler on his guidance to making Council 15921 a reality.
Congratulations to the men of Council 15921 on this historic event!
