If you visit the campus of Loras College, you may get the impression that several students plan to audition for an upcoming production of the popular 1970s feature film and hit TV show The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams. However, Loras is not planning such a production. So, why are these students letting their hair and even beards go wild?
These students are members of the Loras College Council 9224 of the Knights of Columbus and they are participating in a unique fundraiser that ends, no joke, on April 1st. The Loras Knights are raising money to establish a fund benefitting low-income pregnant women. The fund will help defer the costs of checkups so women can receive proper care for themselves and their child(ren) in the womb.
“This effort will help save the lives of women and children and to make their lives better,” shared Colin Priest, a Council 9224 Knight. “It also fits well with the original and still guiding goals of the Knights of Columbus - to unite men of Catholic faith and to provide for families”, said Priest, who is a Seminarian for the Diocese of Des Moines studying at Loras. “Plus, it is good clean fun for a worthy cause.”
In exchange for a donation, a vote can be casted for a Mohawk, bald, buzz cut with designs, tiger stripes throughout the hair, or checkerboard hairstyle with the highest grossing one being cut into various Loras Knights on April Fool’s Day. The haircuts are being provided free of charge by Capri College in Dubuque.
To donate and/or to seek more information, please contact Colin Priest via email (email@example.com) and via phone (641-891-2501). The public is welcomed to witness the haircuts on April 1st at Capri College (395 Main Street - Dubuque) beginning at 6:30 PM.
