The PROJECT MOSES by the Onawa-Blencoe Council #6249 of the Knights of Columbus has progressed with the completion of the concrete work. When installed, the 5' 4" tall, 850 lb. monument of polished granite will feature a prominent display of the Lord's Ten Commandments on one side and the Beatitudes on the other that will be a blessing and benefit to our entire community and enable as many people as possible to enjoy it and embrace its holy message.
Knight Concrete Construction Inc. of Onawa poured the foundation during the 2nd week of October and also the walk area surrounding where the monument will rest. Owner Jeff Knight and his crew did a beautiful job, using a technique called 'stamping' to give the concrete a textured look.
The site is on the north side of St. John Catholic Church in Onawa, facing Iowa Avenue. The installation of the monument and its dedication are expected to take place before the end of the year, depending on production timelines. There only remains the final electrical work for lighting the monument. Additional landscape beautification will take place in the spring.
Having observed a backslide of our society's morality over the last thirty years, partly evidenced by the removal of anything related to God from public view and public places, the Knights of Columbus is using the PROJECT MOSES as an instrument to further the mission to restore knowledge, reverence and respect for the TEN COMMANDMENTS, which need to stay a vital part of America's Judeo-Christian culture.
