Sir Knights of James G. Jordan Assembly 3031 based in West Des Moines once again supported the national Wreaths Across America program benefitting the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
Wreaths Across America’s mission - Remember, Honor, Teach - is carried out in part by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond. Wreaths Across America embodies the very best of the holiday spirit. By paying respects to the men and women who have served our country through the simple act of placing a wreath on their grave, families know their brave warriors will always be with them.
In Iowa, this year’s effort began on 14 December 2012 when nine Sir Knights unloaded 1155 wreaths in 45 minutes delivered to the Iowa Veterans Cemetery located outside of Van Meter. They also broke down and stacked the shipping containers and completely cleaned up the work area within an hour.
On 15 December 2012, twenty six Sir Knights and eight Boy Scouts and their fathers participated in the ceremonies and the placement of the wreaths on the gravesites.
In addition, Gloria Doyle, widow of late Sir Knight Brian Doyle of Assembly 3031, played the bugle for the ceremonies and also placed a wreath on Brian’s grave.
