State Chaplain: Unborn Should Be Civil Rights Focus Now

Iowa Knights of Columbus State Chaplain, Father William E. Reynolds, had the following letter to the editor published by the Des Moines Register on July 13, 2014:

The 50th anniversary of President Lyndon Johnson’s signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is now being commemorated.

Who should now be the focal point of the civil rights movement? The unborn. Unlike the racial minorities of the 1960s, the unborn cannot be seen or heard. They are not potential humans, but are humans with potential.

If it was right and just to protect racial minorities in the 1960s (and of course, it was the right thing to do), then it is right and just now to protect those who are most innocent, most vulnerable and most unprotected, the unborn.
